With its innovative, artist-centered format, abc art berlin contemporary is consciously focused on artistic practice. Each invited gallery is specifically asked to realize a single position of contemporary art. Rather than presenting their particular programs, the galleries present themselves in their capacities as producers of selected artists. abc is led for the second time this year by Maike Cruse as artistic director. In his seventh editon, abc welcomes galleries from across the world to Berlin presenting international projects. For 2013, abc was pleased to announce a variety of premier and site specific works. The line-up included new works from artists such as Julieta Aranda, Nina Beier, Eva Berendes, Julius von Bismarck, Nina Canell, Adriano Costa, Michelle Di Menna, Thea Djordjadze, Maria Eichhorn, Mark Flood, Kasia Fudakowski, Laetitia Gendre, Mathew Hale, Jan Peter Hammer, Klara Hobza, Susanne Kriemann, Ryan McGinley, Robin Rhode, Michael Riedel, Ricarda Roggan, Jerszy Seymour, and Santiago Sierra.
Participating artists will exhibit performative and time-based works; others are planning lectures, artist鈥檚 talks, sound works and discussions to their presentations, all of which result in an extensive four-day program spanning the entire area.
The exhibition design has been developed further by Manuel Raeder and looks critically into the temporary exhibition architecture. Instead of producing extensive one-way solutions, the concept is based upon already existing and recyclable structures. Combined with specially developed display systems, those structures will provide an environmental sustainable setting.
