Gwangju is a city with a vibrant local culture and exceptional facilities. Over the last 15 years, Gwangju Biennale has become one of the most important art events in Asia, and the city itself is known for its abundant cultural background and artistic community. To develop the new cultural economy of the city, art:gwangju was officially inaugurated in 2010. The aim of art:gwangju is to provide a garden for artistic experiment, and to discover and nurture hidden talent.
We appreciate all the participants who helped us provide such a stunning experience last year. This year with your participation we aim to consolidate and increase the numbers of collectors and sales. This edition of the fair will open on the day before the Gwangju Biennale, therefore it would be the perfect stop off for international guests flying into the city. For our international guests who would like to stay in Seoul, we can offer VIP advice and services.
The Asian art market continues to do well in the context of globalization of today’s art economy, fresh and diverse directions have been proposed and new collections established. In the flow of the market, art:gwangju is focusing on ‘glocal’ to provide a communication platform for international art galleries from different cultural backgrounds. art:gwangju:12 is by invitation only fair to reinforce its artistic aspect, coupled with open platforms to explore radical models of investment in art infrastructures such as Museum Outlet and the development of both commercial and nonprofit alternative spaces.
