Fresh Paint 2 will be held on March 18 鈥 21, 2009, in "Hatachana" site in Tel Aviv. "Hatachana" (鈥淭he Station鈥) is a beautifully renovated old train station located between Jaffa and the colorful neighborhood of Neve Tzedek. It will be exposed to the general public for the first time during the fair Fresh Paint鈥檚 mission is to create a platform from which young, Israeli artists can emerge. Unique to the fair is the presentation of bodies of works by up-and-coming, independent artists - painters, sculptors, photographers and video artists - alongside the professional Galleries. 70 unrepresented artists, all selected by a distinguished panel of Israeli and international art professionals, and 5 young Israeli galleries, will present their works at Fresh paint 2 alongside Israel鈥檚 top 12 contemporary art galleries. Fresh paint 2 offers an educational program of lectures, panels, performances and encounters with Israeli art and artists. To complement the fair鈥檚 offerings, a curated exhibition of select, challenging artworks by Fresh Paint鈥檚 independent artists, will be presented at Many House gallery space of Bank Leumi, in walking distance from the fair鈥檚 ground. Each year, a Most Promising Artist Award is presented at Fresh Paint Art Fair by the Igal Ahouvi Art Collection. The winner is selected from the independent artists participating in the fair for his or her overall artistic achievements so far, as well as for showing the most promise and potential for the future. Shira Zelwer, the Most Promising Artist Award winner of Fresh Paint 1, will present a solo show at Fresh Paint 2, curated by Ellen Ginton, chief curator, Israeli art, The Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Fresh Paint 2 includes a number of unique works, commissioned from independent artists of Fresh Paint 1. These commissions include Anisa Ashkar鈥檚 "Leda And The Swan", a special performance curated by Edna Moshenson, with the support of Outset Contemporary Art Fund, a video installation by Porat Salomon, curated by Sarit Shapira, and additional video works by Itamar Shimshoni and Keren Yeala Golan. Fresh Paint鈥檚 community projects and fund-raising activities to benefit non-profit organizations through the arts, include The Secret Postcard, in association with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art鈥檚 Education Center, to fund art scholarships for youth from underprivileged backgrounds, who excel in the arts, The Curator鈥檚 Choice Gallery which funds the yearly activity of the art therapy program at the nationwide children鈥檚 homes of the charity Yeladim 鈥 Fair Chance for Children, and special edition commissions by three of Fresh Paint's artists, to support the activity of Nalaga'at (meaning: "Do Touch") Deaf-Blind Theater Company in Jaffa port, Tel Aviv Fresh Paint 2, in collaboration with Israel's leading art and culture institutions, has designed a rich VIP program for overseas and select local guests. The VIP program includes the fair's previews, a private preview at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art of Avner Ben Gal鈥檚 exhibition, guided by the curator Philipp Kaiser (MoCA), and a cocktail reception at the museum for Jossef Krispal鈥檚 exhibition. The program includes additional events around town, such as a special guided tour by The Bauhaus Center, Tel Aviv at Neve Zedek neighborhood, cultural collaborations with Batsheva Dance Company, Beit Lessin Theater and The Nalaga'at Center, and various offerings by the fair's participating galleries.
