Fresh Paint 2010

05 May, 2010 - 08 May, 2010
Fresh Paint contemporary art fair was launched in Tel Aviv in 2008 to a phenomenal success, with 14,000 visitors. Fresh Paint 2 took place on March 2009 and proved a continuous success with 36,000 visitors in 5 days, including 4,000 invited guests - business, cultural and social leaders, and art-world professionals - who attended the fair's VIP preview night. The fair brings together all the significant forces of the Israeli art world, enjoys the support of leading art institutions and attracts the local and international art crowd.

Fresh Paint is an extraordinary opportunity to broadly explore and support the lively Israeli art scene.

While following the formula of professional art fairs around the world, Fresh Paint is unique in its role as a launch pad for the careers of promising, unrepresented artists. The Artists' Greenhouse at Fresh Paint, set alongside presentations of established contemporary art galleries, showcases the works of such independent artists, all carefully selected by a professional panel, exposing them to curators, gallery owners, collectors and the public at large, while enabling them to sell their work and enjoy the fruits of their talent. Fresh Paint prides on its professional program of special projects and commissioned works by the fair's independent artists. Four such challenging and individual artworks were executed in Fresh Paint 2, including, among others, a performance/installation by Anisa Ashkar, curated by Edna Moshenson, with the support of Outset Contemporary Art Fund, and a video installation by Porat Salomon, curated by Sarit Shapira.

Fresh paint also offers an educational program of lectures and encounters with Israeli art and artists, as well as community projects and fund-raising activities to benefit several nonprofit organizations. An award is presented by the Igal Ahouvi art collection to the most promising independent artist at the fair and one noteworthy work by an independent artist is selected for sale at the Sotheby's Israeli art auction in New York. Shira Zelwer, the Most Promising Artist Award winner of Fresh Paint 1, presented a solo exhibition at Fresh Paint 2, curated by Ellen Ginton, chief curator, Israeli art, The Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In its two years of existence, Fresh Paint art fair has managed to become Israel's largest, most influential art event.

Fresh Paint 3 will be held in Tel Aviv on May 5-8, 2010. A new addition to the fair's offerings on its third year will be a video lounge showcasing an exhibition of independent artists' video works alongside a screening of a rich, international video art program.

Last admission: 30 minutes before closing each day
Admission: 35 NIS, educational and video programs at no extra charge

About the Venue:
Jaffa Port's Warhouse 1, which has undergone renovation and reconstruction in recent years, will be exposed to the public for the first time during Fresh Paint 3. Extending over 5000 square meters, the two-floor hangar was built in the 1930s, during the Mandatory period. It served as a warehouse and a packing house for Jaffa oranges, among other things.
