VERGE retuns to Manhattan in 2014 for its fifth annual art fair. This year, Verge expands on its boutique roots to stage its annual event in a 3-story loft penthouse in the bustling SoHo neighborhood. This sumptuous space, with over 6,000 sq ft of exhibition space, will host a tightly curated selection of galleries, project spaces and two hand-picked special exhibitions of new and contemporary works. This year's Verge is not to be missed.
In recent years, the art market has become much more blue-chip-centric than ever before. This reduction of art to its investment and "product" leaves much to be desired, creating a trifling context of business-as-usual. Verge seeks to recover a space for artistic practice that is artist-centric, DIY, and return art-making front and center, where it belongs. To do so, Verge will focus on showcasing the work of artist collectives, artist-run spaces and artist co-ops in conjunction with a program of work by individual artists selected through a group of diverse open calls. While commercial art galleries will also be included, we will limit the number to a small proportion relative to the overall artist-centric initiatives on display.
