Whitney Lynn presents Rummage, a series of performative installations at Open Source Gallery. Garage sales have a long history, tracing back to the early 1800s, when shipyards would sell off unclaimed cargo–called “rommage”–at discounted rates. Eventually moving from the docks into private yards and community spaces, the modern garage sale exploded as both a tradition and phenomenon in the 1950s with the flood of consumer goods entering the market. Today rummage sales are a staple of summer and many shoppers are driven by “the find,” combing through others’ castoffs in an effort to discover a coveted treasure. read more...

In her work, Lili Dujourie (1941, Roeselare) combines the influence of such Flemish Primitive painters as Jan van Eyck with her personal artistic approach. She works in marble, papier-maché, steel, lead, velvet and ceramics, giving a leading role to decoration and ornamentation and playing with the sensuality and directness of the materials. Traces, Nevin Aladag’s latest solo show at WENTRUP, is named for her new 3-channel video work, which is also on view concurrently at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. On three separate projection surfaces, Aladag creates a large-scale sound-and-image portrait of the city of Stuttgart. Now in her 90s, Adnan is an extraordinary creative voice and force of artistic renown. She moves freely between writing and art, poetry and tapestry and all aspects of her creative output will be reflected in the exhibition.  Adnan was born in 1925 in Beruit and has been one of the leading voices in contemporary Arab American literature since the 1960s.
