Which is not to say a bad subject, ready to be extruded through camp pathos, folk poetry and gestalt comedy. That extrusion, that’s Keegan Monaghan’s world. It’s a sofa’s exegesis in fugitive color. Los Angeles, CA, USA
Jul 09,
2016 - Aug 06, 2016

Dark Mimes at ASHES/ASHES We’d leave at the break of dawn, even earlier, like 4am to avoid traffic; I was handed this black leather cushion to finish my night on; the streets were dead quiet, on the freeway other cars, other families leaving town; the lunch stop was my favorite, little sandwiches made with so much care, delicately wrapped in tin foil, the ritual of slicing an apple with the sharp folding knife kept in the glove compartment; empty beaches, hair in faces, long dinners playing with portable video games; more video games in the hotel room; all we ever wanted was everything. read more...

Lawrence Ferlinghetti: Love and War
at Rena Bransten Gallery
San Francisco, CA, USA
Jul 08,
2016 - Aug 20, 2016

Lawrence Ferlinghetti: Love and War at Rena Bransten Gallery Rena Bransten Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Artist, writer, publisher, activist, and San Francisco legend, Ferlinghetti has been painting with the eye of a poet for over six decades. Throughout his career in literature and decades long affair with the written and spoken word, Ferlinghetti has maintained a visual art practice charged with his spirit, political convictions, and humanism. Ferlinghetti’s paintings possess an awareness and depth that could only have been born of a life as rich and complex as his – he experienced the horrors of WWll first hand, (resulting in his “radical pacifism”), played a prominent role in the San Francisco Renaissance, and has been a social and environmental activist and advocate of his adopted home of San Francisco since moving here in 1951. read more...
