Walking Sculpture 1967–2015
at DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park
Lincoln, MA, USA
May 09, 15 - Sep 13, 15
Walking Sculpture 1967–2015 considers the history and practice of walking as a means for questioning social, political, economic, and artistic hierarchies. Inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s 1967 performance Walking Sculpture, in which the artist rolled a newspaper sphere through city streets in Turin, Italy, Walking Sculpture 1967–2015 features an international selection of artists who engage in walking as an autonomous form of art, as cartography, as an exploration of physical experience, and as social practice. Pistoletto’s walking performance was an act of dissonance against both traditional methods of art-making and behavioral norms. read more...

Michael Cook: Personal Structures: Crossing Borders
at dianne tanzer gallery + projects
Venice, Italy
May 09, 15 - Nov 22, 15
Michael Cook’s photographic tableau seduces with its aesthetic, and a black and white tone made radiant with a suffusion of barely visible colour. Placed in a luxurious drawing room, these unfolding scenes of beautifully dressed black people in period costume set up a contradiction, a shock within such civilised interiors, with the naked white person amongst them who becomes, variously a lamp, a table, a vase, a stool and an ashtray. Object takes a reversal to depict historic interracial inhumanity once routinely practised - a black person “owned” by a white - and drives home the depravity of carelessly treating people like objects. read more...
