Intrigued by the general absurdities and local quirks of beachgoing, Martin Parr has photographed beaches across the world for many decades, creating images that range from closeups of sunbathers to shots of rambunctious swimmers caught mid-plunge. This exhibition presents photos of beachgoers on far-flung shores, including those of Argentina, Brazil, China, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Japan, the United States, Mexico, Thailand, and, of course, the artist鈥檚 native England. read more...

Charles Ray: Sculpture, 1997鈥2014 at The Art Institute of Chicago The first major exhibition devoted to celebrated Chicago-born, Los Angeles鈥揵ased sculptor Charles Ray since a midcareer retrospective in 1998, this display fills the second floor of the Modern Wing with 19 works and flows into the museum鈥檚 gardens with an additional two, presenting a full range of Ray鈥檚 most recent achievements with particular emphasis on figurative experiments. The exhibition, co-organized by the Art Institute and the Kunstmuseum Basel, can only be seen in the United States at the Art Institute, and six sculptures鈥攊ncluding four new works in their museum debut: Horse and Rider, Huck and Jim, Dog (Silver), and Girl on Pony鈥攁re on view only in Chicago. read more...
