We Will Control the Vertical at The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, Skidmore College We Will Control the Vertical presents works that complicate notions of identity in contemporary diasporas. Diaspora- a term originally used to describe the dispersal of Jews beyond Israel- is a critical concept in cultural studies that examines the effects of globalization on communities and individuals. Because the diaspora is rooted in a relationship with a historical past, artists draw upon both traditional art-making practices as well as the global contemporary language of postmodernism. read more...

Susan Tepper: Paintings 1978 – 1983   at Tripoli Gallery Susan Tepper: Paintings 1978-1983, is the first solo exhibition of the artist’s work since 1989. In 2015, East Hampton’s Guild Hall publicly reintroduced paintings by Susan Tepper in their group exhibition, “Selfies and Portraits by Artists of the East End” where six of Tepper’s portraits were seen alongside works by Joan Semmel, Ahn Doung, Eric Fischl, Cindy Sherman, and Billy Sullivan, among others. Susan Tepper: Paintings 1978-1983 includes twenty-two abstracted faces, called “Heads”: ten measure 8 x 5-3/4 inches and twelve measure 16 x 12 inches. read more...

For this installation, the first solo US museum presentation for the artist, Party will make an all-over mural on the walls and ceiling of the Museum's main central corridor. Andy Warhol: Sunset at The Menil Collection A rare, unfinished film by Andy Warhol, Sunset is a meditation on the temporality of an everyday phenomenon. Warhol began making the film in 1964 when the Menil Collection founders John and Dominique de Menil commissioned the artist to create a new film, one with spiritual significance. Warhol shot sunsets in San Francisco, East Hampton, and New York City, but never completed the project, stating, “I filmed so many sunsets for that project, but I never got one that satisfied me. read more...

Gendron Jensen: Series on Resurrection in Nature at Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University For more than forty years Gendron Jensen, a largely self-taught artist now living in New Mexico, has obsessively and lovingly transformed found relics into wakeful images of uncommon beauty. The Series on Resurrection in Nature, created between January 1969 and March 1970, consists of sixteen 60 x 72 inch finely detailed graphite drawings of small natural phenomena found on the land surrounding Saint Benedict’s Abbey in Benet Lake, Wisconsin. A Wisconsin native, Jensen spent his childhood in the northwoods near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. read more...
