Cutout/Decoupage at Nancy Hoffman Gallery 锟糃utout/Decoupage at Nancy Hoffman Gallery December 18, 2014-January 24, 2015 On December 18th Nancy Hoffman Gallery opens 鈥淐utout /Decoupage,鈥 a response and homage to the Matisse cutouts now on view at MoMA. The exhibition, which continues through January 24th, includes paper, plastic, steel and ceramic cutouts, as well as Asya Reznikov鈥檚 video in which a cutout bird lifts from the surface of a globe and appears to flutter and fly around the world, over land and sea. In an explanatory label at MoMA, a curator writes of Matisse鈥檚 awareness that his cutouts were a step into the future. read more...

Fiona Tan: Terminology at National Museum of Art, Osaka (Kokuritsu Kokusai Bijutsukan) Born in Indonesia in 1966 to an Indonesian-Chinese father and an Australian mother, Fiona Tan was raised in Australia. She later moved to Europe and is now a video artist based in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam. In her first notable work, a documentary called May You Live In Interesting Times (1997), she explored her background and searched for members of her family, which had dispersed following an anti-Chinese uprising that occurred in Indonesia. The film was highly acclaimed for its symbolic portrayal of various aspects of cultural pluralism, including contemporary conflicts between different ethnic groups. read more...
