Having grown up within the early days of snowboarding lifestyle, Parillo began painting in the 1990s while working as a commercial artist in the action sports industry. In the book, the sequel to Alice鈥檚 Adventures in Wonderland, the heroine starts out in the safe environs of her fire-lit library only to be led by curiosity through the refl ecting glass into a world of backwardness, distortion, 鈥渦pside-downsiness,鈥 and strange adventures. Describing himself as a 'paraphotographer', Heinecken tirelessly explored the nature of photography and the ideas traditionally associated with it, through a large variety of techniques, including sculpture, video, printmaking and collage. The exhibition at WIELS examines a pivotal period in the artist's career, during which Heinecken used a Polaroid SX-70 camera. read more...
