Danielle Georgiou: #hashtag
at Women & Their Work
Austin, TX, USA

Danielle Georgiou's intimate videos and photographs exploit and explore femininity and a desire to document beauty. They investigate the psychological effect of pop culture and social media on perceptions of the female body. These videos raise questions about what are acceptable behaviors in representations of women in popular entertainment, and what activities are condoned by contemporary social norms for women. By calling on female pop artists to provide the soundtrack to her life, Georgiou's self-portraits are a direct response to her desire to be "perfect. read more...

HOME (very) SWEET HOME
at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris, Pantin
Paris, France
May 23, 14 - Jul 26, 14
With the exhibition HOME (very) SWEET HOME, Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac has imagined an apartment in which works of art and objects of decorative art are used to stimulate the spectators' senses, their emotions, and their mood. The visitor reproduces the movements of the seducer in La Petite Maison (The Little House), a 1758 novella by Jean-Fran莽ois de Bastide in which a libertine wagers that he can seduce a woman simply by exposing her to the beauties of his little house. As the story unfolds, the reader is shown the gradual effect that the aesthetics of the house have on the sensual desires of the two protagonists. read more...
Luka Fineisen: Extracts of glamour
at Claudine Papillon
3e - Paris, France
May 24, 14 - Jul 19, 14
Luka Fineisen provokes physical phenomena. She provokes them in both senses of the term, daring them to occur, defying them with all due respect, though her work is pervaded with an understated, highly distantiated sense of humor. In the same polysemic, informal register, you could even say she 鈥済oes looking for them鈥. Everything we will see in this first exhibition at the Claudine Papillon gallery demonstrates that she has found them. read more...
