Prix de West brings together artists and art enthusiasts

OKLAHOMA CITY * The 36th annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale opens the weekend of June 12-13 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The show highlights more than 250 artworks by over 100 noted contemporary western artists. Events include a minimum bid sale, live auction, and artist demonstrations by Tom Browning, Daniel Gerhartz, and Mehl Lawson. Seminars are also scheduled to take place throughout the weekend, covering topics such as California landscape painting, Texas impressionism and the art of Alfred Jacob Miller. In conjunction with Prix de West, Dodson Galleries celebrates its 26th anniversary with a show and sale June 11-14 featuring paintings by Mike Wimmer along with works by 30 artists participating in Prix de West. Red Earth Festival

OKLAHOMA CITY * Downtown Oklahoma City comes alive the weekend of June 5-7 with the 23rd annual Red Earth Festival. The festival takes place at the Cox Convention Center and features more than 1,200 Native American artists and dancers. Visitors can buy both traditional and contemporary Native American art, including jewelry, beadwork, basketry, pottery, sculpture, wood carvings and paintings. More than 50 artists are preparing for the fifth annual Plein Air Easton Competition and Arts Festival, one of the top art shows in the East, which takes place July 20-26. The opening weekend begins with a collectors' preview party on Friday, July 24, at the Academy Art Museum. Visitors can watch artists paint in a Quick Draw in downtown Easton from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Award winners are announced at 1:30 p.m. and paintings are available for sale until 2 p.m. On Sunday awardwinning artists participate in a paint-out and live auction. Artists accepted into this year's show include Scott Lloyd Anderson, Debra Huse, Greg LaRock, Roger Dale Brown, Jill Carver, and Mike Rada. A new exhibition honors artist Richard Schmid

NEW YORK * This month West Wind Fine Art and the Salmagundi Club honor noted painter and author Richard Schmid with an exhibition titled Richard Schmid & His Influence. Recent works by Schmid as well as paintings on loan from private collections are on display. The exhibition also showcases artwork by artists whom Schmid has taught, mentored, or influenced, including Nancy Guzik, Timothy R. Thies, Scott Burdick, Rose Frantzen, Daniel Gerhartz, Susan Lyon, Casey Baugh, Clayton J. Beck III, Paul Mullally, Gretchen Schmid, Molly Schmid, and Judy Stach. INDIANA POLIS * The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art hosts the 17th annual Indian Market and Festival the weekend of June 27-28. The event features original artwork by more than 130 Native Americans from 60 tribes, as well as storytelling, dancing, singing, and traditional Native American cuisine.
