IN THE NEWS Opened in 1964 by western art connoisseur Bill Burford, Texas Art Gallery in Dallas, TX, closed it doors on July 31. Following Burford's death last February, his family was unable to find a buyer and shut the gallery in accordance with his wishes to sell or close the business after his death so it would never become a financial burden. "Texas Art Gallery had 45 wonderful years thanks to all our loyal artists and collectors." says Burford's step-daughter Debbie Leeuw. Leeuw plans to continue the family tradition of selling quality artwork and recently opened Debbie Leeuw Fine Art, LLC, a private art consulting business.... Taos artist Melissa Zink passed away in July at the age of 77. Her paintings, sculpture, and mixed-media works, many of which were inspired by her great love of books, were exhibited in galleries and museums around the country. In 2001 she was the recipient of the State of New Mexico's Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts. A memorial exhibition of her art, Melissa Zink: Her Singular World, opened September 18 at the Taos Art Museum and Fechin House.
