Fifth Annual ArtAspen Presents 25 National Galleries

The fifth edition of ArtAspen, July 31- Aug. 3 at the Aspen Ice Garden, is expanding its reach into other cultural disciplines, in efforts to attract first time art buyers and to surpass last year’s record art sales and attendance of 2,425. In addition to the art collectors who attend annually, ArtAspen is reaching out to culturally-savvy enthusiasts of cinema, music, philanthropy and skiing by partnering with leading organizations.

Expectation for Record Attendance and Art Sales
The fifth edition of ArtAspen, July 31- Aug. 3 at the Aspen Ice Garden, is expanding its reach into other cultural disciplines, in efforts to attract first time art buyers and to surpass last year’s record art sales and attendance of 2,425. In addition to the art collectors who attend annually, ArtAspen is reaching out to culturally-savvy enthusiasts of cinema, music, philanthropy and skiing by partnering with leading organizations. Partners include Aspen Film, the Paepcke Gallery at the Aspen Institute, Aspen Music Festival and the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club, who will provide their members a direct conduit for art discovery and inspiration at ArtAspen.
ArtAspen is an excellent opportunity for attendees to view and select from 300 contemporary artworks – the finest work by 100+ renowned artists.
Opening Night Fuses Art with Skiing
The July 31st Opening Night Preview will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Aspen Peak magazine with Aspen Peak’s ‘Sneak Peak’. Ski Helmets donated by OSBE Helmets were hand-painted by members of US Ski Team, locally prominent skiers and renowned artists and will be auctioned at the Fair. Proceeds benefit the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. Participating ski painters include US Ski Team Coach, JohnO McBride, US Olympic Cross Country Skier Noah Hoffman, US Olympic Skiers Simi Hamilton and Casey Puckett, and several others.
Exploring How the American West is Currently Depicted in Contemporary Art
On Friday, Aug. 1, at 2pm, the Fair presents a panel discussion, The American West in Contemporary Art, with leading museum curators. The distinguished panelists include Julie Sasse, Tucson Museum of Art; Becca Maksym, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art; Erin Dziedzic, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art; and Mandee Goff, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Aspen Ice Garden
On Friday Night, 5-7pm, ArtAspen celebrates the Golden Anniversary of the Aspen Ice Garden. Fair organizers will provide open wine bar and celebratory birthday cake for all attendees as we toast and salute the remarkable 50th the anniversary of this beloved rink. While the hockey rink has presented hundreds of hockey related tournaments, camps, training, practice session over the years, ArtAspen , the rink’s premiere dry floor event, will showcase over $50 million in art. The reception is hosted by the Aspen Chamber of Commerce and presented by the Aspen Daily News.
Recognizing the Contributions of Herbert Bayer
On Saturday, Aug. 2 The Paepcke Gallery of the Aspen Institute will host a panel discussion, Artist Herbert Bayer’s Impact on Aspen with a reception to follow. Panelists includes Lissa Ballinger, of the Aspen Institute, Mr Bayer’s former assistant, Artist Richard Carter, architect Harry Teague, moderated by Gwen Chanzit, Curator at the Denver Art Museum.
Meet Art Philanthropist Dorothy Vogel and Filmmaker Megumi Sasaki
Saturday evening, Aspen Sojourner partners with Aspen Film for an onsite screening of the art documentary, Herb and Dorothy, 50 x50. Aspen Sojourner’s Contributing Editor Julie Comins Pickrell will moderate a discussion between Filmmaker Megumi Sasaki and Featured Art Philanthropist Dorothy Vogel following the screening. The film presents the last chapter of the Vogel’s extraordinary life and their judicious gift to the nation of 2,500 works of art.
Combining Art + Music
Sunday, Aug. 3, is A Day of Art + Music, hosted by the Aspen Music Festival & School. They are inviting recent concertgoers to ArtAspen for a breakfast spread, guided tour and inspirational panel discussion Holding Patterns: Collectors on Collecting. The panel, hosted by KSPN Radio will feature noted Houston art collector Lester Marks as they share their sound advice on acquiring art and building an art collection.
