Robert Rauschenberg: Erasing the Rules at San Francisco Museum of Modern ArtFrom the 1940s until his passing in 2008, Rauschenberg worked with everything from photography to items scavenged from New York City streets to vats of bubbling mud. More than 150 of Rauschenberg’s artworks, including prints, sculptures, paintings, and Combines (works that incorporate painting and sculpture), will be on view in the retrospective Robert Rauschenberg: Erasing the Rules, celebrating the artist’s continual experimentation with materials and collaborative working processes. The exhibition demonstrates how, with razor-sharp humor and intelligence, Rauschenberg broke down boundaries between disciplines, anticipated many of the defining cultural and social issues of our time, and redefined what art could be for the generations of artists who followed. In the Tower: Anne Truitt at National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. The studio life of Anne Truitt (1921–2004) is explored in the first major presentation of her work at the Gallery. The exhibition celebrates the museum’s acquisition of several major artworks by Truitt in recent years, including seminal works from the Corcoran Collection as well as several outstanding loans. Bringing together nine sculptures, two paintings, and 12 works on paper representing the different media in which the artist worked, the exhibition traces Truitt’s artistic development from 1961 to 2002. It will take place in the year of the 100th anniversary of Russia's October Revolution and although the exhibition will not have any direct links to this historical event, many of the issues that artists face in post-communist Russia are comparable to those in 1917. El Lissitzky at State Tretyakov Gallery At the Tretyakov Gallery in Krymsky Val, patrons will be able to see the prouns (works created in the vein of one vector of abstract art invented by Lissitzky), architectural projects, sketches of designs for exhibitions from the museum’s collection, and also paintings and graphic works from overseas museums (all in all, about 200 exhibits).  The Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center will feature the earliest period of Lissitzky’s career, the so-called Jewish period, including book illustrations, posters, photos.
