Besher Koushaji: Moments of Hope
Moments of Hope unfolds as a continuation of Beshr Koushaji鈥檚 artistic journey, following his earlier exhibitions Reflections and Contemplations. Together, these series form an ongoing meditation on the human condition, its fractures, and its luminous points of resilience.
The works emerge from a collective history marked by displacement, conflict, natural disaster, and the uncertainties of the pandemic years. Within this atmosphere of instability, Koushaji turns his gaze toward the fragile yet enduring presence of hope, a force that insists on renewal even when eclipsed by despair.
In this exhibition, hope is not presented as an abstraction but as a fleeting illumination that breaks through ambiguity. The artist鈥檚 distinctive visual language of layered strata, where horizontal and vertical worlds are suspended between past, present, and future, becomes a site where sorrow and longing are tempered by light.
Flowers surface across the canvases as metaphors of resilience, reminding us of beauty鈥檚 ability to persist in the face of adversity. Fruits such as lemons, pomegranates, and anemones carry the weight of cultural memory, recalling the rituals and resilience embedded within the Damascene household. At the heart of this imagery, the figure of the woman stands as a central force, an archetype of strength, preservation, and continuity.
Through these works, Koushaji creates a contemplative space where memory and lived experience converge, and where hope emerges as the quiet but vital thread that binds them together. Moments of Hope invites viewers to dwell within this fragile luminosity, to witness the persistence of beauty, and to recognize hope as both an individual and collective act of survival.
