The gallery have asked the above mentioned artists to comment on the Greek poet C.P. Cavafy's (1863-1933) poem The City from 1910:
The City
You said: 鈥淚鈥檒l go to another country, go to another shore,
find another city better than this one.
Whatever I try to do is fated to turn out wrong
and my heart lies buried like something dead.
How long can I let my mind moulder in this place?
Wherever I turn, wherever I look,
I see the black ruins of my life, here,
where I鈥檝e spent so many years, wasted them, destroyed them totally.鈥�
You won鈥檛 find a new country, won鈥檛 find another shore.
This city will always pursue you.
You鈥檒l walk the same streets, grow old
in the same neighborhoods, turn gray in these same houses.
You鈥檒l always end up in this city. Don鈥檛 hope for things elsewhere:
there鈥檚 no ship for you, there鈥檚 no road.
Now that you鈥檝e wasted your life here, in this small corner,
you鈥檝e destroyed it everywhere in the world.
