Folk artists, also known as self-taught or outsider artists, are unlike conventional artists in that they are not inspired by previous art movements or by artists. They create instinctively, with no formal training and what they create is essentially from the heart without regard to what is fashionable or acceptable in the mainstream art establishment, unfettered by preconceived notions of what art should be.
