In The Dark Light of The Sun showcases a body of charcoal works on paper by New York-based artist Corey Bond. With windswept motion and ominous stillness, Bond鈥檚 photo-realistic works are unified by their heightened emotions they invoke in the viewer through dramatic, cinematographic compositions. Inspired by his time in Los Angeles, visions of isolation merge Bond鈥檚 observations with influences of Edward Hopper, Dorothea Lange, and Andrew Wyeth. His unique creative approach begins by drafting up a list of words and even potential titles that evoke a feeling, specifying the tonal qualities of the piece prior to touching on the compositional elements. As a collection, the works mimic film stills in how they capture a fleeting moment and nostalgic sentiment.
