From the department of European painting of one of the earliest and oldest art museums in America, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, founded in 1870, comes an exhibition of masterpieces of European painting spanning the 16th-20th centuries. The exhibition displays 80 works, beginning with old masters such as Velasquez and Rembrandt, then moving across the 19th century with the Barbizon school and Impressionism, culminating with 20th century artists such as
Picasso and
Matisse. A highlight of the exhibition will be the display of 11 masterpieces by the representative Impressionist painter,
Monet.
