Eva Klasson: An Artist Unfolds

11 Oct, 2025 - 29 Mar, 2026

The photographer and artist Eva Klasson (b. 1947) caused a sensation in late-modern Paris with Le troisi猫me angle, (1975鈥76), 颅a series of gelatin silver prints of her own body from a macro perspective. These pictures represent the starting point of an intense period in the second half of the 1970s, leading to international exhibitions. This exhibition introduces us to Klasson鈥檚 path towards becoming an artist, from her early formative years in Sweden, through her breakthrough and experimental artistic phase, to the later works created just before leaving Paris to eventually start a totally different life.

Klasson鈥檚 artistic development runs parallel with the 1960s and 70s feminist wave, and with the French body art movement, art corporel, which challenges traditional notions of art, the body and the artist鈥檚 role in society. Her works and approach show clear links to both these movements 鈥 visualising emotional states and bodily functions, and using the body as physical material. Yet, her technical proficiency and her insistence on high-quality prints set her apart from many of her contemporary artists.

Extensive archive material, early work, new copies and works from the Bor氓s Art Museum麓s collection introduce us to Klasson鈥檚 imagery, artistic methods and international presence. The exhibition is based on a long-term research project at Stockholm University, exploring Klasson鈥檚 artistic practice throughout the 1970s.
