Finding Z贸bel Prints
Finding Z贸bel Prints presents a survey of Fernando Z贸bel鈥檚 print works drawn from institutional collections across the Philippines, complemented by reproductions of prints housed overseas.
This exhibition is anchored on a discovery by curator Aprille Tijam, who in 2019 uncovered a previously unknown donation by Z贸bel to the British Museum鈥檚 Department of Prints and Drawings. Containing prints and drawings by Z贸bel and Spanish abstract artists from the Museo de Arte Abstracto Espa帽ol, in Cuenca, Spain, this donation had never been cited in any local or international publication鈥攗ntil the 2024 exhibition Z贸bel. The Future of the Past. Finding Z贸bel Prints now formally announces this discovery to Philippine audiences.
While Ayala Museum has previously mounted two exhibitions on Z贸bel鈥檚 prints鈥擣ernando Zo虂bel: Prints and Drawings (2016) and Imprint (2023) this is the first to feature works from collections beyond the museum鈥檚 own holdings.
Given that prints are traditionally produced in multiple editions, this exhibition will also offer audiences an opportunity to closely examine variations between different impressions of the same print. While they may appear identical, the nuances of each version鈥攔esulting from slight to significant modifications in the printing process鈥攎ay be examined.
