In/Out of Focus

Oct 19, 2024 - Nov 30, 2024

Royale Projects is pleased to announce In/OUT OF FOCUS a group exhibition featuring Chris Cran, Laddie John Dill, Shauna La, David Allan Peters, Ladan Sedighi, and Michael Todd opening Oct 19 and running through Nov 30, 2024.

In/OUT OF FOCUS  invites viewers to engage with a perceptual field that is fluid and ever-changing. Through the use of color, light, pattern and material, the works included can be deceptive or misleading, revealing the complexity of visual experience. Each artist taps into the power of illusion turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.

Chris Cran鈥檚 Stripe Paintings use a stenciling technique that creates the appearance of pixelated photographs, distorted and grainy as if magnified beyond the limits of their original resolution. Writer and curator Shana Nys Dambrot states that 鈥渆laborate imagery coalesces into form, but elsewhere it behaves like pixels fuzzing out.鈥 when describing the optical play of David Allan Peters鈥 abstractions.

Crafted from custom glass tubing, filled with noble gas and ignited with electricity, the Light Sentences of Laddie John Dill emit an otherworldly array of colors, shifting between vibrant and muted hues with varying visibility. In another interplay of visual effects, Ladan Sedighi鈥檚 color shifting panels create an almost spiritual presence morphing our sense of reality.

Michael Todd鈥檚 hazy mark making made with the use of spray paint creates a dreamlike atmosphere. By immersing the viewer in a vast field of deep, lustrous pigment Shauna La鈥檚 paintings become disorienting only grounded by obscured, fluid strokes.
