Nature Improved: San Diego Artists Interpret our Landscape

Oceanside Museum of Art and San Diego History Center (SDHC) have collaborated with local art scholars to produce a joint exhibition that offers visitors a unique and diverse perspective from which to view our region鈥檚 landscape. Nature Improved: San Diego Artists Interpret Our Landscape, will open at SDHC on September 19 and at OMA on October 26 and will continue through January 26, 2014 at SDHC and February 23, 2014 at OMA.


The dual exhibition鈥攖he first such collabortion SDHC and OMA鈥攊s a juried invitational with submissions from local artists. The exhibition will present approximately 25 regional artists and comprise 60-80 artworks in total. Works will be split evenly between the two institutions.


The lead organizer of the exhibition is Charlotte Cagan, Executive Director, San Diego History Center. Bram Dijkstra, renowned author and art scholar, is the lead curator of the exhibition. The panel of curators also includes: Derrick Cartwright, Director of University Galleries, Professor of Practice and Art History, University of San Diego; Alessandra Moctezuma, Gallery Director and Professor of Fine Art, San Diego Mesa College; and Daniel Foster, Executive Director, Oceanside Museum of Art.


Among the selected artists are four featured artists: William Glen Crooks, Carol Lindemulder, Michael Field and Lynn Schuette. In conjunction with the exhibition both museums will offer public programming centered around landscape art and related themes.
