Sol LeWitt: Wall Drawing No. 309
UMOCA is proud to announce its partnership with the National Gallery of Art for the National Gallery鈥檚 鈥淎cross the Nation鈥 program, which brings key works of art to regional museums across the United States in 2025 and 2026.
As part of the program, UMOCA will receive Sol Lewitt鈥檚 Wall Drawing No. 309 on loan, on view March 25, 2025 through March 25, 2027 in the museum鈥檚 lobby.
鈥淯MOCA is honored to partner with the National Gallery of Art to bring Sol LeWitt鈥檚 Wall Drawing No. 309 to Utah as part of 鈥楢cross the Nation,鈥欌 said Laura Allred Hurtado, UMOCA鈥檚 Executive Director. 鈥淟eWitt鈥檚 work embodies an ever-changing execution of conceptual ideas鈥攚here instruction, interpretation, and realization unfold uniquely in each installation. As a non-collecting institution with continuously rotating exhibitions, UMOCA is a fitting home for this ephemeral installation, reflecting our commitment to art as a dynamic and evolving experience.鈥
鈥溾楢cross the Nation鈥 is the manifestation of the National Gallery鈥檚 vision as the nation鈥檚 art museum. We are so thrilled to bring some of the most beloved works from the nation鈥檚 collection directly into communities across the country as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of America,鈥 said Kaywin Feldman, director of the National Gallery of Art.
The National Gallery of Art worked with all partner institutions鈥攕elected to broaden access to the national collection in as many regions of the United States as possible鈥攖o curate a unique selection of artworks for each 鈥淎cross the Nation鈥 presentation. The selections introduce new artists and perspectives to these communities while complementing each Museum鈥檚 own collections and programming.
Through this program, works of art by renowned artists from the National Gallery鈥檚 collection will be on loan at 10 partner museums in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Utah, and Washington, creating unprecedented access to the nation鈥檚 masterworks by placing them directly in communities across the country. 鈥淎cross the Nation鈥 is part of the National Gallery鈥檚 programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, taking place in 2026, which also includes a series of special installations and exhibitions, on-site programs, and digital content.
