Saul Becker: An Unfamiliar Tide
at Zieher Smith & Horton
New York, NY, USA
Feb 19,
2016 - Mar 19, 2016

Saul Becker: An Unfamiliar Tide at Zieher Smith & Horton Saul Becker’s paintings have long been informed and enchanted by the natural world’s seductive abundance. With the delicate accuracy of a camera lucida drawing and the stark contrast of a photogram, Becker is adept at utilizing methods of photography; his brand of realism stems from manipulations of photographs taken on Arctic expedition. Recombining images and memories, and in this latest body of work, mirror images, the paintings suggest dreams more than documents, and are enhanced by the haunting, frozen quietude of the subject, with what Ken Johnson of The New York Times called an “infectious, distinctly contemporary mood of existential perplexity. read more...

Feb 21,
2016 - Apr 17, 2016

Running Fence: 40 Years Post at Sonoma County Museum Four decades have passed since Running Fence graced the hills of Sonoma and Marin Counties in 1976. The monumental work by Christo and Jeanne-Claude consisted of a white fabric and steel-pole fence 24.5 miles long and 18 feet high that was installed across the properties of 59 ranchers, flowing over the hills between Highway 101 near Cotati and the Pacific Ocean. Running Fence existed for only two weeks, but the project started well beforehand and included years of debates and public hearings over the merits and potential impact of the artwork. read more...

Heroes
at Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois
6e - Paris, France
Feb 19,
2016 - Apr 02, 2016

Heroes at Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois Art must take reality by surprise » Françoise Sagan said. With the Heroes exhibition, the opposite has occurred. Imagined before the attacks in Paris in November 2015 and the death of David Bowie, reality suddenly caught up with Heroes. Current affairs, life and death invited themselves to art’s table, confirming their porosity and giving our proposal a new acuteness. Although it resonates with the present time, Heroes nevertheless has nothing to do with homage or commemoration. read more...

Stockholm, Sweden
Feb 20,
2016 - May 08, 2016

LIFE ITSELF at Moderna Museet, Stockholm …considering that the attempts to answer this question by occidental sciences and philosophies have proven unsatisfactory. Ever since the days of Aristotle, life itself has remained a mystery, in spite of countless attempts by scientists and philosophers to come up with a definition. Despite contemporary advanced theories about complex systems and the vertiginous potential of synthetic biology, we are still unable to determine what constitutes life. read more...
