R. B. Kitaj: Don鈥檛 Listen to the Fools at Albright-Knox Art Gallery Although born just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, R. B. Kitaj (American, 1932鈥2007) spent much of his life in England. Throughout his career, he created an extensive body of work in a diverse range of media, from print to paint. Kitaj鈥檚 works explore, in-depth, overarching questions central to the development of the twentieth century, while also incorporating autobiographical qualities. He frequently used the concept of the fragment as a narrative device to challenge our perception of history, which he believed is affected by the fragmented information in written and photographic documentation. read more...

This show juxtaposes historical and contemporary painters and photographers as a way of re-thinking 鈥渓andscape鈥 and its associated meanings. Long been interested in the interface between the natural and the constructed world, Patte begins her paintings by first creating models made from pieced-together scraps of found materials such as discarded cardboard, cloth, sticks, string and putty.
