Art collectors travel to the Midwest for one of the biggest western art events of the year
INDIANAPOLIS * Western art steals the spotlight this month during the fourth annual Quest for the West art show and fixed-price sale at the Eiteljorg Museum. The show opens the weekend of September 11-13, with an opening reception for last year's Artist of Distinction, Curt Walters, on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, demonstrations and panel discussions take place during the day, with the banquet and awards ceremony following the fixed-price sale that evening. The Quest for the West show officially opens to the public on Sunday, September 13. This year's show features 50 artists including Cyrus Afsary, Arturo Chavez, Tim Cherry, Greg Kelsey, Roseta Santiago, and Nathan Solano. Birds in Art
WAUSAU * Wildlife art enthusiasts flock to Wisconsin this month for the opening of the 34th annual Birds in Art show at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. The show opens September 12 and features more than 100 works by painters from all over the world, including John Busby of Scotland, the recipient of this year's Master Wildlife Award. The award is given by the museum to one artist per year for outstanding achievement using bird imagery in his or her artwork. New Show in New England
BENNINGTON * The first annual Laumeister Fine Art Competition opens September 19 at the Bennington Center for the Arts. The competition is named for Bruce and Elizabeth Laumeister, who helped establish the center and are passionate art collectors. The competition is juried by award-winning New Mexico painter Albert Handell and features more than $7,000 in awards.
