A new show spotlights today's top representational artists
TUSCALOOSA * The Westervelt-Warner Museum of American Art and the Jack Warner Foundation present ArtAmerica 2009, a contemporary art exhibition and sale the weekend of April 24-26. Warner, a prominent art collector residing in Alabama, and artist Quang Ho worked together to organize this special exhibition which features original artwork by more than 30 living representational painters. Participating artists include Clyde Aspevig, Gordon Brown, George Carlson, Walt Gonske, Quang Ho, Jeremy Lipking, Sherrie McGraw, Laura Robb, Richard Schmid, and Nancy Switzer. Registration is $200 per ticket which includes lectures, demonstrations, museum tours, and a black-tie dinner and reception. Wrapped in Tradition
WAUSAU * This month the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum brings to light Dale Chihuly's collection of American Indian trade blankets in an exhibition opening April 4. His interest in blankets inspired him to create glass cylinders "wrapped" in intricate and colorful motifs, found in Navajo blankets. Rendezvous 2009
An annual event highlights contemporary western artwork
TULSA * The Gilcrease Museum presents Rendezvous 2009, which kicks off on Friday, April 17, with artists' talks by Gerald Balciar at 10:30 a.m. and Sonya Terpening at 1:30 p.m. That same day, an evening with the artists and art sale is held at 6 p.m. Openingnight tickets cost $150 per person and reservations can be made online. The Gilcrease Museum celebrates the 28th anniversary of this exhibition and sale, which features contemporary western artwork by more than 25 artists including Cyrus Afsary, Gerald Balciar, Joseph Bohler, Tim Cherry, Glenna Goodacre, Oreland C. Joe, David A. Leffel, Sandy Scott, Sonya Terpening, and Jim Wilcox. The exhibition opens to the public on April 18 and is on view through June 21. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for college students with valid ID. Children under 18 are free. ST. PETERSBURG * Visitors head to Florida this month to attend the 10th annual Wildlife & Western Visions Art Show, which is presented by Plainsmen Gallery and Raymond James Financial. Original wildlife and western artwork, Native American jewelry, and sculpture are on display throughout the event by 19 artists.
