See works of 12 different female artists based in Berlin. They are members in the traditional Association of Berlin Female Artists (Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen = VdBK), founded in 1867 – the year of birth of Käthe Kollwitz. She was a member too, studied and teached at the Female Art School, founded by the Association in 1868. Women of her time were not allowed to study at State Art Academies.

The VdBK is one of the oldest cultural institution of Berlin and an active part of the Berlin World of Art. Since the middle of the 19th century the Association supported young female artists like Käthe Kollwitz. They organised exhibitions, arranged smashing costume parties, awarded scholarships and hold competitions. Beside Käthe Kollwitz were affiliate lot’s of well known artists like Paula Modersohn-Becker, Julie Wolfthorn, Charlotte Berend-Corinth, Jeanne Mammen, Hannah Höch, Milly Steger, Maria Slavona, Augusta von Zitzewitz and Lotte Laserstein.

Today the Association doesn’t have an own exhibition location. They are guests at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Museum at the first time. And we are glad to support the artists of the VdBK like they supported Käthe Kollwitz in the beginning of her career.

More than 30 works are on display. Works on paper in different techniques and sculptures made of different materials.
