28th Annual Juried Show
Beginning July 30, the Bowery Gallery on 25th Street in Chelsea presents its annual national juried exhibition. Now in its 28th year, the exhibition has been curated in previous years by painters including William Bailey, Rackstraw Downes, Joan Snyder, and Lois Dodd, and by the art critics Jed Perl, Lance Esplund, and David Cohen, among others.
This year’s juror, Ro Lohin, is a painter and curator based in New York City. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions including the The New York Studio School, The Painting Center, and Lori Bookstein Gallery.
From hundreds of applicants this year, Ms. Lohin has chosen seventy-six works by 74 artists from the Northeast and from Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, and Italy. Gallerygoers will find artists whose work they know, as well as artists new to the New York scene. Ms. Lohin’s selection includes work in oils, watercolor, acrylic, encaustic, pencil, collage, and mixed media. The group of works reflects the mix of tradition-conscious figuration and abstraction for which the Bowery Gallery is known.
