A Selection of Works from Galerie 1900-2000
In 1972, Marcel Fleiss, together with Fred Fisher and Philippe Klein, opened Galerie des Quatre Mouvements at the encouragement of his friend Man Ray, whose rayograms were the subject of the gallery鈥檚 inaugural exhibition. In 1981, Fleiss launched Galerie 1900-2000 and has since organized more than 150 exhibitions devoted to major artists or rediscoveries and published more than 100 catalogues. These publications have come to be regarded as rare and important sources for scholarly research. In 1991, Marcel鈥檚 son David joined the gallery, developing its photography program and establishing links between historical and contemporary artists. Together, they devote themselves primarily to Surrealist paintings, drawings, and photographs, while also continuing to champion the art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
