Alex Harrow: Capturing Life Through Colour

Apr 25, 2025 - May 09, 2025

We look forward to welcoming multidisciplinary artist Alex Harrow back to Six Foot Gallery. A multidisciplinary artist from Perthshire whose practice spans painting, relief prints, and sculpture, Alex is known for his expressive mark-making and dynamic use of colour. His work explores the emotional complexities of life, capturing its light and shadow, joy and sorrow. In his solo exhibition, Capturing Life Through Colour, Alex brings together a body of work that celebrates the vibrancy of existence while reflecting on its challenges.

At the heart of Alex鈥檚 process is the physicality of his approach. Through sweeping strokes, layered textures, and bold applications of pigment, his works convey a sense of movement and energy that mirrors the unpredictability of life itself. This exhibition emphasises the transformative power of colour, using it as both a visual and emotional language to explore themes such as resilience, mental health, and social connection. Alex鈥檚 belief that beauty often arises through adversity is reflected in his dynamic compositions, where moments of joy are set against subtle undercurrents of reflection and melancholy.

Drawing from influences such as Impressionism, Expressionism, and Fauvism, Alex adapts these movements into a modern context. Capturing Life Through Colour presents a rich array of subject matter, from Scottish landscapes and still life鈥檚 to human figures, all unified by a sense of rhythm and vitality. Many of the works in the exhibition begin as relief prints created from sketches, which are then reimagined as oil paintings, highlighting Alex鈥檚 innovative process of merging mediums.
