The work presented in Are We Artists Now? navigates facets of life that often go unnoticed. Kirsty Elizabeth Howland鈥檚 exploration of contemporary fashion trends, and Mollie Prime鈥檚 critique of stereotypical beauty standards highlight the impact of society upon the individual. Escapism, power, unfamiliarity, and temporality are themes explored in the works of Gabriella Coelho, Oliver Knowles, Megan Oakley, and Lauren Heap respectively, commenting on the relationship between human life and the environment. Jess Govinden鈥檚 portraitures of MCs records the people behind the sound, whilst Lois Cropper engages with the dynamic of intimate partner relationships, offering an insight into the capability of comfort, commitment and trust. Ria Measom鈥檚 minimalistic portraits of young women, Grace Kendall鈥檚 consideration of identity as a transgression of labels, and Bethany Jones-Grimshaw鈥檚 depiction of motherhood complete the work for Are We Artists Now?, an exhibition that offers original and diverse perspectives on the world around us.
