Artists’ Book Month II: The World is a Scandal
BravinLee is pleased to present Artists' Book Month II The World is a Scandal. BravinLee has been exhibiting artists' books forever.
The artist book reveals artists at their most unguarded, and authentically personal. The artist shares an intimate sequence of moments. As inauthenticity prospers and pan-Fascism rears its head and blurs the line between reality and nightmare, the simple honest tangibilty of the artist book is a refuge.
We are pleased to include a selection of books and photographs from our friends at the esteemed Ubu Gallery. If you don’t know them, you should.
Since its founding in 1994, Ubu Gallery has presented nearly 100 exhibitions of 20th Century avant-garde art, with an emphasis on the inter-war period of the 1920s-1930s, particularly the Dada, Surrealist, and Constructivist movements. Ubu exhibits paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, and ephemera (books, posters, graphic design, etc.) and, wherever possible, highlights the interrelationships among these art forms. Ubu Gallery is a well-known presence on the international cultural scene and enjoys a worldwide reputation for their serious explorations of areas covered by few other galleries, including acclaimed survey exhibitions of Polish, Romanian, Czech and other eastern European avant-garde art. Ubu’s focus on the avant-garde, particularly on historically important artists and movements that have not received appropriate attention, has earned the gallery frequent reviews in the international press focused on the visual arts.
