Clément Cogitore

Mar 12, 2020 - Apr 05, 2020
Dominik Mersch Gallery will be hosting an exhibition of works by internationally-acclaimed artist and filmmaker Clément Cogitore. Cogitore developed his artistic practice at the meeting point between Cinema and Contemporary Art. He combines film, video, installations and photographs to question how society coexists with its own images and representations. More often than not, Cogitore’s works are presented as a question of rituals, collective memory, and representations of the sacred. Recently, Cogitore adapted an extract of Jean Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet ‘Les Indes Galantes’ in collaboration with Krump dancers. The intensely physical and political bodies of these dancers re-shape the tribal dance of Rameau’s original libretto performed in Paris in 1723, re-staging young people dancing on the verge of a volcano. Dominik Mersch Gallery will be exhibiting a selection of video works and photographs alongside this award-winning film.
