Crafting a Continuum: Rethinking the Contemporary Craft Field

Jan 30, 2014 - Apr 27, 2014
This exhibition provides an international perspective on the innovations in craft over the past half-century. Traveling from Arizona's ASU Art Museum, the show features over 60 examples of exemplary work in wood, ceramic, and fiber drawn from their existing craft collection. Work by emerging artists including Sonya Clark, Anders Ruhwald, Mark Newport, and Alison Elizabeth Taylor, as well as recent acquisitions by several national and international artists, reflect current trends in the field. These works are placed alongside pieces by influential, established artists such as Peter Voulkos, Ed Moulthrop and Dorothy Gill Barnes to present a clearer understanding of craft's trajectory through the present day.
