Curiosity Kills the Cat
Based on the English idiom 鈥渃uriosity killed the cat,鈥 the exhibition title is not to be understood literally, however, related to the image by Anna McCarthy raises questions concerning the whereabouts of the cat. Is the harmless looking dog, cozily wrapped in a romantic blanket, involved in its disappearance or even in its miserable fate? Does the terrier, which majestically sits enthroned in front of a balustrade, conceal his malicious deed behind a mask of coolness, or is the animal just an innocent observer?
As much as the cat enters forbidden territories and thereby may get its paws burnt, art trespasses frontiers: It searches and discovers new ideas, addresses unpleasant issues and amazes its audience. The works presented in the group show by our gallery artists all reveal their very own moments of surprise diversely expressed in film, photography, painting, and sculpture.
