Robleto: Ancient Beacons Long for Notice is the聽McNay鈥檚 first major presentation of artworks by Dario聽Robleto, a San Antonio native best known for his聽installations of carefully collected and crafted objects.聽Robleto鈥檚 assemblages are meditations on love, death,聽mourning, and American history, reinforced through聽the artist鈥檚 passion for astronomy, biology, and聽psychology. For example, Robleto鈥檚 American Seabed聽(2014) is the result of his interest in sound and its聽physical manifestations. The sculpture comprises a wide聽variety of objects, including fossilized whale ear bones聽salvaged from the sea. This exhibition offers viewers聽an opportunity to see works from throughout the聽artist鈥檚 career, and helps contextualize his most recent聽endeavors. Dario Robleto currently lives and works in聽Houston, Texas, and in 2016 was appointed the Texas聽State Artist Laureate.
