EM24: Escape Simplicity
Surface is excited to announce the exhibition for our fourteenth East Midlands Graduate Project, EM24: Escape Simplicity.
Escape Simplicity encapsulates a diverse range of artistic approaches and contemporary perspectives that have been developed during a month-long residency. Intriguing and eclectic materials have been employed in a range of inspired practises that include painting, ceramics, and textiles. From the hybrid sculptural paintings of Toby Curtis, to the hidden made visible in the sculptural work of Lucy Nelson, and the intangible aspects of selfhood given form in the ceramics of Gray Monroe, Escape Simplicity reveals the complex interplay at work within this year's group of selected artists and promises a visually stimulating and thought-provoking exhibition.
The East Midlands Graduate Project supports Fine Art graduates across the region as they make the transition from university to the professional art world. Escape Simplicity is the culmination of a four-week residency undertaken in the gallery鈥檚 top-floor Project Space. Seven of the region鈥檚 most exciting new graduate artists have built on their successes at university and developed their practice to produce original work for this year鈥檚 exhibition, EM24: Escape Simplicity.
