Kent Fine Art is pleased to open the fall season with FLEX, curated by Orlando Tirado. FLEX presents the shape, mass, and form of the body in relation to an emerging queer, transgender, renegade post-minimalist strategy that strips the body of its flesh, framework, and constraints. The exhibition includes new work by Math Bass, Dan Finsel, Gordon Hall, and Molly Lowe, alongside works by Richard Artschwager, James Lee Byars, Guy de Cointet, Marcel Duchamp, Robert Morris, and Myron Stout.
The project offers a radical alternative to presupposed identity politics, one that re-defines the body against the grain of a representational impulse, and posits a new vision of the contemporary body through absence, movement, fluctuation, and abstraction, rather than concrete, figurative depiction. The work anticipates the body鈥檚 physical presence; the body activates. The work slows down time and speaks through silence.
