Fast Forward: The Future Is Equal
The first four exhibits in the series broke down artists by race, gender, and sexuality. But FAST FORWARD | The Future Is Equal, which opens July 30 says 鈥淔uck that shit!鈥 and presents 50 artists of all stripes representing the past, present, and future of art.
From the outset, FAST FORWARD aimed to present an array of artists from various disciplines working in varying media to highlight the recurring themes that artists have always taken on, generation after generation: racial and gender inequality, body politics, sexuality, imperialism, migration, social justice, identity, and the lack of inclusion within mainstream art and culture. Says gallery owner Julian Bermudez, 鈥淚 want everyone to see these artists鈥 works through an expanded lens 鈥 that of pure appreciation regardless of their age, race, cultural identity, or gender.鈥
So, The Future is Equal will include fan favorites from the previous shows, like the Louise Nevelson 1969 sculpture Night Leaf from The Future is Female; Frank Romero鈥檚 iconic work, The Closing of Whittier Boulevard from The Future Is Brown; Delano Dunn鈥檚 breathtaking Afrofuturistic mixed-media work, (Superposition) from The Future Is Black; and Keith Haring鈥檚 1986 limited-edition silkscreen Untitled (from the Bad Boys portfolio).
