Gibraltar: Our Sacred Earth, Our Sense of Place
For the Gibraltarian their ‘place’ is the ‘Rock’, which nurtures their physical selves and their culture, which is sacred to them. Their relationship to time, shifting from an endless expansion to deepening creativity and mutual understanding, is an example to the world. Major world religions have long co-existed with humanity and dignity in Gibraltar. —Philippa Beale, Curator
Nine artists from Gibraltar will be exhibiting at Bermondsey Project Space this September. The work explores the meaning of ‘Gibraltar: Our Sacred Earth, Our Sense of Place’. Each artist interprets their home and the title in different way; a reflection of their relationship with their intimate surroundings. The show features both young and established artists in range of media; paintings, sculptures and installations. These artists have been active in Gibraltar and the international scene over the past year and many have won top prizes in competitions with international adjudicators.
