Gutai. Collection+Goetz
With Collection+, the Sammlung Moderne Kunst (Modern Art Collection) in the Pinakothek der Moderne has been presenting works from its holdings since 2019. New acquisitions, discoveries and thematic focuses show the diversity of the holdings in collaboration with partners and foundations.
Works from the Sammlung Goetz place the phenomenon of gestural art within an international context. After the end of World War II and in an auspicious political climate, one of the most innovative artist groups of the 20th century, Gutai (concrete, spontaneous, direct), evolved in Japan. The Gutai group was founded in 1954 with the aim of moving beyond the realm of abstraction and exploring the possibilities of pure creativity. Works by Toshio Yoshida and Chiyu Uemae, among others, will be presented. This project is a continuation of the joint cooperation between the Bayerische Staatsgem盲ldesammlungen and the Sammlung Goetz under the title Sammlung+Goetz.
