Hannah Hummel: Unfold Your Fist
DIANE ROSENSTEIN is pleased to announce Hannah Hummel: Unfold Your Fist, a solo exhibition of photographs, video, and textiles produced over the past two years in Germany and in the United States. Hannah Hummel: Unfold Your Fist opens Saturday, September 13th, with a reception for the artist from 6:00 pm 鈥 8:00 pm. This is Hummel鈥檚 first exhibition with the gallery.
Hannah Hummel, who lives in Cologne, Germany, will present portraits, still life, and installation that question and define the significance of shifting mindsets in western culture. The title of the exhibition 鈥 Unfold Your Fist - refers to the artist鈥檚 emphasis on encouraging open and vulnerable interaction with the people and places she engages in her practice. Miss Hummel endeavors to create 鈥渁 cosmos where the individual is not reduced to solely gender, race or age, but where the situation of a person is implied. 鈥 This universe is revealed in two videos from her 鈥淧icnic鈥 series -- an ongoing collection of picnic scenes in different languages in various locations around the world. Here she will present 鈥淧icnic LA鈥 (a Haitian couple in Elysian Park) and 鈥淧icnic NY鈥 (Three Cuban friends in Central Park).
