Highlights from the Collection
Ever since Sonja Henie and Nils Onstad founded the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in 1968, its directors have asked themselves, 鈥淲hat might the art of tomorrow look like?鈥� Today, we see that each imagined a very different answer to that question. Consequently, the collection has grown somewhat more like a field of wildflowers than a planned garden, more like a rambling stone pathway than a tidy brick wall.
This exhibition presents an unusual staging of works and illuminates the collection鈥檚 unique and evolving character. The exhibition takes visitors through seven thematic groupings, where works call out to one another from different parts of its history, offering both humorous and dramatic juxtapositions with highlights from the collection by works of Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Mark Boyle, Viktor Vasarely, Al Hansen, Arnold Haukeland, Jean Dubuffet, Asger Jorn, Juan Gris, Lea Porsager and Lene Berg among others.
