In The Mary L. Beitzel And The Sally And Volney Righter Galleries

Oct 19, 2008 - Jan 11, 2009
As part of a county-wide celebration of clay, this exhibition will feature tableaus in clay by ten distinguished contemporary artists who use the material to probe a wide range of contemporary issues through the spatial, corporal, and contextual arena of installation art. Touching on a wide range of issues from the personal to the universal, each approaches the medium in a highly individual manner. While some of the works take ceramic tradition as their starting point, others totally reject any antecedents from pottery history, often subverting or altering the functional origins of the medium. The works interact with the surrounding space as well as with the viewer to convey a great range of creative energy and thought. Participating artists include artists Ann Agee, Marek Cecula, Michel Lucero, Sana Masusama, Jeffrey Mongrain, Judy Moonelis, Denise Pelletier, Charles Simonds, Betty Woodman, and Arnold Zimmerman
