Nuart Gallery and Peacock Visual Arts are proud to present Inky Protest, a collaborative exhibition showcasing a selection of artwork plucked from the archives of Nuart Gallery and Peacock Visual Arts respective print houses. Featuring some of the world鈥檚 leading names in the Street, Urban and Lowbrow art movements from Brad Downey, Mike Giant and Ralph Steadman to Futura, Martha Cooper and Jamie Reid, Inky Protest surveys over 20 years [check] of countercultural creativity. The Nuart Print house selection includes an international roster of artists who have participated in Nuart Festival and Nuart Aberdeen over the years. Showcasing Nuart鈥檚 history and standing within the international Street Art community, the prints on display at Inky Protest are taken from Nuart Fesitival鈥檚 2015 and 2016 boxsets editions which were produced as a celebration of street art鈥檚 debt to those movements that came before it, in particular cultures built around the 12鈥� single, hence a standardised size of 12鈥� x 12鈥� (30 x 30cm) for each work. All of us at Nuart believe in helping foster a global creative community. We host exhibitions, collaborative online and offline projects, art events, festivals and workshops of all types. We are always looking to collaborate with other fields. Though we are primarily a Street and Urban Contemporary focused gallery, we support a strong interdisciplinary approach to 鈥榤aking鈥� and frequently look for alternative and interesting ways to engage the creative community. Whether it鈥檚 through a printed project, an interactive element, or an online project, we promote the theory that all artists are multi-faceted, idea-centric individuals whose creativity goes well beyond the technical aspects of the work into the experiential and experimental side of art making and appreciation. Peacock Visual Arts has over 40 years鈥� experience of collaborating with artists. From national treasures, Turner Prize nominees, Becks Futures winners and legendary tattooists to local schoolchildren our mission has embraced the importance of making as a key component of personal and cultural growth. Recent projects have included working with Tom Hammick on a suite of prints now in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress 鈥� New York. Frances Walker 鈥� a founding member 鈥� now in her 88th year and in many ways the bedrock that our workshop is built upon. Frances will exhibit work in The W OR M later in the year presenting recent large-scale etchings. Donald Urquhart鈥檚 A-Z of Michael Jackson 鈥� a large-scale commission 鈥� printed on canvas 鈥� will be a key artwork in the National Portrait Galleries 鈥� 鈥極n the Wall鈥� Exhibition in June. All featured in Inky Protest alongside local and national artists. All artworks are made in Aberdeen. Peacock are very proud of their roots and the continued support they are given that has established their continued growth within the sector. 鈥淲e are delighted to welcome Nuart into our home.
